Adults 30 and older who like theme nights have a new neighborhood bar to visit. Horizons & More opened a month ago on Loop 410 near Perrin Beitel Road, and it’s only open to those 30 and older.

The building Horizons took over has been home to several bars over the years, including former American Legion Post 592, and, more recently, Lucky’s Icehouse. Owners Toya Taylor and Marvin “Cuddy” Haynes offer dozens of beers and a full bar in 4,500 square feet.

You won’t find a craft cocktail menu, and the drinks are sometimes served in plastic cups. The signature cocktail is called the Horizon Sunrise, the house take on the popular tequila sunrise loaded with lots of fruity cherries.

Customers should have no problem finding somewhere to sit. The wraparound bar, adorned with corrugated metal, has room for 10 guests, and wooden stables are scattered throughout. And if you want to enjoy the outdoors, there is a large covered patio that has a front-row view of the afternoon rush hour.

“This is a place to just come in and relax and have some fun,” Haynes said. “Since the first day we opened, I have been humbled by the response we have received from the community.”

Horizons is all about the themes, and they vary. Recently there was a Sundress Sunday, karaoke on Tuesday, stand-up comedy shows and poetry readings on Wednesday, a Thursday Bike Night, and a Stick and Pipe Saturday when the outdoor deck turned into a cigar bar. A large dancing area is in front of a stage that features live bands playing everything from country music to the blues.

“We want to be an entertainment venue as much as a bar,” Haynes said.

Horizons usually hosts a lineup of food trucks on weekends and occasionally on weeknights in its parking lot.
